Frequently Asked Questions

Read the frequently asked questions that can answer almost everything you need to know about Yin yoga teacher training.

  • Is the course suitable for experienced people?
Yes. It is best to familiarize yourself with the syllabus of each course.
  • Is the course suitable for beginners?
Yes! You don't need to be able to do a handstand or the splits to qualify for yoga teacher training. You don't even have to be sociable or comfortable speaking in front of a group of people. Many people go through yoga teacher training with no intention of actually teaching yoga. These people simply want to deepen their own yoga practice. Other people want to teach but need help gaining the confidence and experience to be at the top of the class. Yoga teacher training gives students plenty of practice teaching yoga classes. My training provides a safe space designed to help you develop your skills in a judgment-free zone. The only prerequisite for yoga teacher training is the curiosity to learn more about yoga and yourself!
  • Can I take part if I am pregnant or menstruating?
Yes. Many of the women taking the course have children, are pregnant or have just had a baby and have learned to adapt their practice accordingly. The priority is always to feel safe in your practice and make sure you are taking care of yourself and maintaining your capabilities every time you practice. You don't need a teacher's permission on how to practice and what you choose to do or refrain from doing. Some courses, especially those that teach how to stimulate acupressure points, have an impact on the fetus, and therefore my knowledge of the participant's pregnancy is required, so as not to accelerate the delivery, etc. Practicing yoga during your menstrual cycle is completely safe, regardless of the position.
  • What if I am not stretched?
You don't have to be very fit or flexible to enjoy a teacher training course, become a great yoga teacher, and deepen your practice! Personally, my range of motion and body type prevent me from doing many yoga poses. The course is conducted in a friendly environment, without judgment or comparison to other participants. Every body is different and has a different range of motion, this will not be assessed in any way during the course.
  • Hypermobility
Hypermobility is discussed in the context of the curriculum and specific asanas. Of course, it is not possible to give individual instruction to one student while training in a large group with a huge number of topics to cover. At each level of training, the course develops depth and understanding of how to safely teach yin yoga. Of course, depending on your reasons for performing hypermobility would largely determine what would be more appropriate for you as a personal practice, i.e. when and where to strengthen and stabilize, and when and how best to stretch. If it is a skeletal property in terms of your own natural ability to access a greater range of motion without pain or destabilization of your particular joint or joints, or a condition in your connective tissue or due to injury, it will largely determine your own best practices. This is a course on how to safely teach Yin Yoga and practice it safely, not a one-to-one teaching experience. It's important to realize that just because you don't have access to the range of movements you see in textbooks or other practitioners, doesn't mean you can't teach well. Sometimes teachers who are less stretched or those with the least mobility are the best teachers who communicate their experiences clearly.
  • Can I teach Yin yoga after completing the teacher training course?
Read the course syllabus carefully, as well as testimonials from former participants, to see what other student teachers have been able to do after studying this curriculum. This may indicate their own confidence level to begin teaching. Some Yin Yoga student teachers may have 20 years of teaching yoga under their belt, but have never studied or practiced Yin Yoga, and everyone starts somewhere. In short, you will find the tools you learn in this course to provide a solid foundation for starting to teach Yin Yoga. No teacher can answer the question "Will I be able to teach well?" By law you can teach anything you choose. There is no legal requirement to obtain a Yin Yoga certification to teach it. There are many untrained teachers who teach Yin Yoga. Whether you do well depends on many factors. What teaching experience do you have and how many years have you been teaching and practicing? How regularly do you teach and practice? Do you have any yoga training or regular practice? Yoga is a skill that can take years to develop with consistent practice and may feel more natural when it becomes part of your daily routine. Most students experience good changes after the Yin course, which give them a strong motivation to continue practicing, due to their own internal changes, which are so strong that they see the benefits of the practice and therefore others can benefit from it too. Many said that the way the course was taught gave them the confidence to present the teachings to others very early on after leaving the course.
  • Can I take the course if I don't plan to teach after completing it?
Yes, you can participate. If you are a yoga student with a strong interest in developing your yoga practice, you can take a course to deepen your knowledge and experience for your own professional and personal development. One of the many benefits of yoga teacher training is that you can use it to deepen your own practice. For example, going through this process can help you understand: More about the physiology and practice of yoga and its effects on your body. Ways to improve personal concentration, level of self-awareness and knowledge of the capabilities of your own body. For example, you may receive corrections on how to effectively use breathing techniques. This correction wouldn't typically be available in a regular yoga class, so you can immediately see how teacher training goes into the smallest details.
  • What if I get sick during the course or come to the course with an injury that limits my range of movements?
If you get injured or feel unwell during the course, you don't have to worry or provide any medical certificates because you don't have to participate in every practice, it's important that you attend and observe. This is something I make very clear in interactive sessions - that you only participate to the extent of your own safety and that this is always your responsibility as a diligent practitioner, whether online or in a classroom situation. No teacher can determine your level of pain during practice. You are not obligated to "do" the poses. You can learn in many ways that do not require physical movement. Real-time observation and dialogue provide other invaluable ways of learning. Many students have learned well enough when injured, sick, pregnant, breastfeeding, or recovering by seeing, being able to read, listen, and ask questions. If you become ill during the course, please notify the organizers, you may be required to wear a mask or move a safe distance from other participants.
